How long is the certificate valid?

The Fire Marshal certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. Refresher training should be completed before your certificate expires to keep your certification continuous. Some employers refresh more often, based on their own fire safety policies.

How do I use a fire extinguisher safely?

Only tackle a small fire if you are trained, it is safe to do so, and you have a clear escape route behind you. Raise the alarm first and make sure people are evacuating. A common method is PASS: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep side to side. If the fire grows or you are in any doubt, get out and leave it to the fire service.
