Prevent fires. Lead evacuations. In under an hour.
Fire warden training teaches nominated staff how fires start, how to remove everyday hazards and how to get everyone out safely when the alarm sounds. In the UK, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to assess fire risk and appoint enough competent people to help put the precautions in place - it is a legal duty, not a recommendation.
Most workplace fires are preventable, and smoke spreads far faster than people expect. The right knowledge, delivered early, removes most of that risk before a fire ever starts.
Our Fire Marshal Course covers what the Fire Safety Order 2005 expects - how fire behaves; preventing fires and protecting escape routes; and raising the alarm, evacuating and using extinguishers within their limits - in clean video modules you can finish on your lunch break.
Built so busy people actually finish the training.
Short, visual lessons. Real workplace scenarios. A clear assessment. No padding, no fluff, no travel to a classroom.

Why smart UK employers switched to online.
Classroom fire warden training means travel, venue hire, a half day off site, and a different instructor every time. Online awareness training is consistent, cheaper, and finished before lunch.
- Zero travel, zero venue cost, zero downtime
- Identical Fire Safety Order content for every learner
- Instant certificate - not posted in three weeks
- Live dashboard to evidence training in audits
The thinking every fire warden must do first.
Good fire safety comes back to a handful of non-negotiable habits. The course drills them in so they become second nature long before any alarm sounds - the cornerstone of fire safety in the UK workplace.
- Prevent - control ignition sources and combustible materials
- Protect - keep fire doors closed and escape routes clear
- Detect - know how to raise the alarm without delay
- Evacuate - sweep your area, account for everyone, assemble safely
Understanding fire warden training requirements in the UK
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is the primary fire safety law in England and Wales. It requires the responsible person to carry out a fire risk assessment, put suitable precautions in place and appoint enough competent people to help implement them. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 sets the wider duty to protect people at work. In Scotland the equivalent duties sit under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, and in Northern Ireland under the Fire and Rescue Services (NI) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (NI) 2010.
Our online awareness and theory course supports those duties and is the fastest, most cost effective way for a UK employer to build that baseline knowledge for one person or for a thousand. Where a task needs site-specific practical training - such as the supervised hands-on use of a fire extinguisher - that practical element may be needed in addition, and sits alongside, not instead of, this course. The fire risk assessment remains the responsible person's duty.
Who needs fire warden training
Almost every workplace in the UK needs nominated people to take charge if a fire breaks out. The most affected are:
- Offices and professional services - floor wardens guiding people to protected stairways
- Retail and hospitality - staff evacuating customers, diners and guests calmly
- Warehousing and logistics - large units with high fire loads and long escape routes
- Care and healthcare - teams supporting residents and patients with evacuation plans
- Manufacturing - sites with hot work, machinery and stored materials
- Education - schools and colleges moving pupils and visitors to assembly points
- Facilities management - teams maintaining fire doors, alarms and emergency lighting
What the course covers
The syllabus is written for the UK market and is structured around three modules:
- How fire behaves - the fire triangle, classes of fire and how smoke spreads
- The fire warden role - what the responsible person, marshals and wardens each do
- Legal requirements - the Fire Safety Order 2005, HSWA 1974 and fire risk assessment
- Prevention and housekeeping - controlling ignition sources and combustible materials
- Escape routes and fire doors - keeping exits clear, unlocked and effective
- Raising the alarm and evacuation - sweep, roll-call, assembly points and PEEPs
- Extinguisher types and limits - water, foam, CO2, powder and wet chemical
- Fire drills and record keeping - practising, reviewing and evidencing your precautions
The cost of inadequate fire warden training
Fire is among the most serious risks any workplace faces. Most workplace fires are preventable, and smoke and toxic gases - not flames - cause the majority of fire deaths, often spreading far ahead of the fire itself.
A single serious fire can cost a UK business tens of thousands of pounds in damage, claims, lost trading and temporary premises. Many businesses never reopen. Training is vastly cheaper.
For employees
Without clear roles, an evacuation can become confused and slow, putting colleagues, customers and visitors at risk from smoke and heat. Trained wardens know how to stay calm, sweep their area and get everyone to the assembly point quickly.
For employers
Costs include damage and business interruption, rising insurance premiums, claims and potential enforcement for failing to meet the Fire Safety Order 2005. Any one of these dwarfs the price of this course.
Online fire warden training vs classroom
Both classroom and online fire warden training have their place. For the awareness and theory stage, online has won the UK market for good reasons:
- Flexibility - train from home, the office or the site
- Cost - no travel, no venue, no instructor rate
- Consistency - every learner sees identical content
- Self pace - rewind the tricky parts, skip the obvious
- Instant certification - no waiting for laminated cards
- Easy admin - one dashboard for every employee, forever
Remember: this is awareness and theory training. It does not replace site-specific practical training - such as the supervised hands-on use of a fire extinguisher - which may be needed in addition for certain roles.
Fire Marshal Certificate validity and refresher training
Your Fire Marshal Certificate is valid for three years from the date of issue. A refresher is recommended around every three years, or sooner if your premises, layout or fire procedures change materially.
We also offer Fire Marshal Refresher courses specifically for certificate renewal - the same standards, a fresh assessment, a brand new three year certificate.
Safe fire warden practice, step by step
- Prevent first - control ignition sources and keep combustible clutter to a minimum
- Know the building - escape routes, final exits, alarm points and assembly point
- Keep routes clear - fire doors closed, exits unlocked, nothing blocking the way
- Check the equipment - alarms, signage, emergency lighting and extinguishers in place
- Raise the alarm - on discovering a fire, sound the alarm without delay
- Sweep and account - check your area, then carry out a roll-call at the assembly point
- Use extinguishers within limits - only on a small fire, with your exit behind you
- Record and review - log drills, faults and incidents to improve your plan
